Tandy, Merideth, Bieberman and others wake up in a steambath from which they cannot escape. After awhile, it becomes clear that the steambath is a sort of Purgatory, where souls come to tell their stories to God who is really the attendant picking up the towels.

About the Author:
Novelist, playwright, short-story writer, and Oscar-nominated screenwriter Bruce Jay Friedman was born in New York City. Friedman published his first novel "Stern" in 1962 and established himself as a writer and playwright, most famously known for his off-Broadway hit "Steambath" (1973) (TV) and his 1978 novel "The Lonely Guy's Book of Life". In addition to short stories and plays, Friedman also has published another seven novels, and has written numerous screenplays, including the Oscar-nominated "Splash" (1984). He resides in New York City with his second wife, educater Patricia J. O'Donohue.

Actor EDWARD ASNER is known for his Emmy-winning role as Lou Grant on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", and later continued in a spinoff series, "Lou Grant".
From AudioFile:
In this engaging 1994 L.A. Theatre Works live performance, Jason Alexander and Mary Gross are perfectly cast as new arrivals to what appears to be purgatory, which just happens to be located in a bathhouse on New York City's Lower East Side. A wonderfully grumpy Ed Asner and an ultra-hip, omnipotent janitor, played by the equally hip Ruben Sierra, are there in the hissing steam to meet them. The entire cast delivers the jokes and asides, as well as the references to New York of the late 1960s, with inspired accents and attitude. The 1970 off-Broadway production gained notoriety for its brief onstage nudity. Recreating that scene should be no problem for devoted audiobook listeners--who already know how to use their imaginations. B.P. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine
