Simon Brett is a former radio and television comedy producer, who has been writing full-time for more than twenty years. Creator of the Charles Paris, Mrs. Pargeter and Fethering series of mysteries, his psychological thriller, A Shock to the System was filmed, starring Michael Caine. Married with three children, he lives in an Agatha Christie-style village in West Sussex, England.
Simon Brett combines his considerable talents as novelist and actor to produce a light-hearted, dramatically read English murder mystery set in the studios, bars, and byways frequented by the staff and personalities of BBC radio. Much of the humor derives from the clash between the banal civil servant and the high-spirited artist, sometimes the same individual, which Brett masterfully mirrors in his vocal intonations. His sound portraits of the members of the"pedestrian features action committee" are hilarious. His accents and vocal impersonations, particularly those of the female characters, are lively, accurate, consistent, and unique to each character.
