From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3-This episodic beginning chapter book is certain to capture the interest of readers who want a belly laugh or two. Maxine, Girl Wonder, and her twin brothers find that their well-intentioned solutions to problems around the house are not always workable-or welcome. For example, when the backyard fence collapses, or the kitchen floats in soap bubbles, their unamused mother becomes cranky. Not until their unplanned antics foil thieves at the supermarket are the children fully appreciated. The last chapter concludes their adventures on a satisfying, upbeat note. While the situations may be somewhat unusual, they enhance the story's unflagging pace. Children can identify with the predicaments-and the punishments! The black-and-white pencil drawings in each chapter are in keeping with the text's action and emotions. This African-American family will keep youngsters chuckling and turning the pages.
