This is the great and deliberate contradiction in Jesus’ first question. Even though He asks what we want, He is not for our plans. He is for His plans, planted in our heart, supported by His Word and confirmed by other Jesus-followers. The essence of His question is not about our desire, it is about discovering His desire for us. In the end, what will truly quench our desires is a relentless pursuit of His desire. Nothing else will satisfy.
