Synopsis

The adventure begins for eleven-year-old Sarah Mattingly and her fifteen-year-old brother Hook when they leave their home in Arlington, Virginia, to stay with relatives on a farm in Illinois during the summer. Sarah finds a musty old book in her uncle's barn, a book filled with strange and mysterious clues that seem to point to a treasure that has been hidden for decades. There is reason to believe the clues were written by their grandfather, James Mattingly, who has been deceased for several years. The children, and their Aunt Jenni, believe the clues are part of a game James crafted, and they set out to solve the riddle. By the time they figure out that the clues and the treasure are real they are in too deep. The "game" spirals out of control, the children are stalked by a reclusive old man with a dark secret, and Sarah's very life is threatened.
