Synopsis

HELP IS ON THE WAY!

This acclaimed reference, which has won 9 literary awards, describes how you, your family, friends, and coworkers can prepare for virtually any disaster in advance, be safe as it happens, and repair anything afterward. It describes…

§ How to store and use all the foods, tools, and other “calamity commodities” you will need when misfortune comes knocking on your door.§ How to perform those everyday tasks that keep you alive —cook, wash the dishes, clean your clothes, bathe, and keep everything sanitary.§ How to defeat disasters without generators, weapons, and wilderness survival skills. When disaster strikes, far more citizens realize the need to help each other —and would rather be known as Samaritans than Survivalists.

Hear what one prominent Amazon Reviewer said of this book…

“I've read literally dozens of books on the topic, and without doubt, Robert Butler's 218 page guide is the best, most realistic, most experienced step-by-step guide to anticipating, surviving and recovering from a wide range of natural disasters I've ever read. This book is instantly accessible by topic, in-depth but not dense, is easy to follow as an emergency first aid manual, and incredibly comprehensive.”

This is not about tinfoil-hat survivalism in a Bunker, or shooting zombies, or a pandemic apocalypse. This is a refreshingly practical, experienced man (he's an architect) writing seriously about exactly what everyone needs to do to survive a disaster, minimize the possible damage beforehand, then what EXACTLY to do step by step in the aftermath to pick up the pieces. All of this without drama, or hyperbole, and with a wonderful quiet confidence born of the man who knows his field and has worked all this out in advance. The book is lavishly illustrated with really excellent photos and original drawings.

Also says Amazon's Hall of Fame Reviewer, Phil in Magnolia:

“Anyone who takes the time to pick up a copy of this book and flip through the pages would find that it contains an absolutely incredible amount of very practical and useful information. The book is organized logically, beginning with what someone should be doing 'Well Before', 'Days Before' and 'Just Before', and giving guidance that is of great practical usefulness for just about anyone and any situation, gradually becoming much more specific and focused on specific types of disasters such as a hurricane, tornado, and so forth. Some of this advice is particularly noteworthy, for example:

§ specifics regarding how to prepare and equip a home to be ready for the aftermath of a disaster - what foods to have on hand, cookware, tools, first aid kit, and many other things.§ documents to maintain in a safe place§ detailed design information for constructing safe refuge within a home - including a 'safe room' fully capable of withstanding a disaster.

The 'Just After' and 'Well After' sections of the book are equally helpful, with specific guidelines on how to determine whether or not your home remains livable, and how to live during the aftermath when repairs have not yet been made and full services such as electricity and water supply have not yet been re-established. How, for example, to make the best use of your limited supply of water, and wash dishes in a sensible way and with minimal water usage.

All of this is presented in a most usable way, extensively illustrated with sketches, drawings, and photos. Excellently done and in my opinion of very great value to just about anyone. There are very few areas where people live these days that are not subject to some kind of extreme weather threat, not to mention the much less likely but still possible scenarios of chemical or biological emergency, or, heaven forbid, a nuclear emergency. Those are covered here as well.”
