Synopsis
Cloud computing is increasingly common. But how are those involved in buying IT to judge the legal issues and risks which arise and how best by way of contract to maximise the advantages and minimise the disadvantages? And how are cloud providers to address the customer s legal concerns so as to make the proposition viable for the customer whilst ensuring their own business succeeds. This revised edition will explore such areas as security in the cloud, data protection, service levels, and contractual issues. It also deals with issues which arise when the cloud service is used by regulated sectors, such as financial services. It will give an understanding of these areas to both those familiar to legal issues in other contexts and those new to these issues. The analysis will be set against the various cloud offerings which exist and are emerging: SaaS, Iaas and PaaS drawing distinctions where relevant and identifying common issues. Not only are business uses considered, but also consumer uses.

About the Author
Renzo Marchini is a solicitor at Dechert LLP. Since 1994 he has specialised in information technology, e-commerce, information security and data protection law as well dealing with all types of commercial and intellectual property issues including outsourcing and technology transfers. Over the last few years an increasing amount of his work is in the cloud . Prior to qualifying as a solicitor he worked for a number of years as a software consultant for Logica, engaged in designing, programming and testing complex software applications. His technical expertise was mainly UNIX and C. He lectures and writes regularly on IT law, e-commerce and data protection. Recent articles have appeared in European Lawyer, Computers and Law, Computing, Storage Networking Times and World Data Protection Report. He is a member of prominent industry bodies such as the Society of Computers and Law and International Association of Privacy Professionals. He sits on the Editorial Board of World Data Protection Report.
