As plastics and their applications throughout the chemical industry continue to diversity, so the methods of testing them must be reconsidered, refined and standardized. The tests approved by the International Standard Organization have assumed increasing importance over the last few years and this is reflected in this manual by explanations of all national standards used in the UK (BSI), USA (ASTM) and Germany (DIN). This handbook also provides an account of plastics testing procedures, covering all physical tests commonly used for quality control purposes, including tests for polymer characterization and thermal ageing, testing for strain and the effects of temperature, environmental resistance and testing of the final product. Apparatus is discussed as an intrinsic part of test methods. The revision team for this edition has been drawn from the Rubber and Plastics Research Association (RAPRA).
