Synopsis

This is the personal story of Gavin Maxwell's childhood and adolescence. During this time he lived mainly, either in fact or in fancy, at the House of Elrig, a lonely, wind-swept house on the moorlands of Galloway in Scotland. It is the house in which he was born and which, together with the influence of his relations, shaped his interest in living creatures and his love of wild country and wildernesses.
