PreSchool-K?A die-cut cardboard cover promises great fun for fire truck aficionados. When the alarm sounds, the fire engine and crew race to put out a warehouse fire?also attended by a helicopter carrying a news crew. A white and yellow seal on the cover proclaims, "It's Totally Interactive!"; unfortunately, those "sturdy pull tabs" are anything but! The interactive aspects are fragile and difficult to manipulate, almost coming apart on first use. The gratuitous gimmick ruins this otherwise appealing picture book with bright, black-outlined illustrations that are reminiscent of the work of Byron Barton. Libraries that purchase interactive materials for use in storytimes might consider it, but everyone else will want to pass.?Lisa Falk, Los Angeles Public Library
