From School Library Journal:
Grade 5-7 Christy, a resilient heroine, struggles with a tough science teacher, competes with a ``perfect'' older sister, and breaks her arm during rehearsals of Peter Pan, of which she is the star. Moreover, she begins a romance with one boy while feeling drawn towards the class loner Michael, who has many problems. A talented musician, Michael is trying to hide the fact that he is living alone while his grandfather recuperates in a nursing home. With Christy's help, Michael ends up living temporarily with the unsympathetic science teacher who has been making his life miserable. Their reconciliation strains credulity. Also, readers will be disappointed that the book ends abruptly before Peter Pan is performed. Nonetheless, much of the action and dialogue ring true, including the supportive parents and other caring adults. This account of a seventh grader's adjustment to middle school should appeal to older elementary and younger middle school readers. Judy Greenfield, Rye Free Reading Room, N.Y.

From Publishers Weekly:
Christy was a big cheese in sixth grade, but her status is severely diminished in the seventh. She manages to land the lead in "Peter Pan," but only because she hams it up disgracefully, in her older sister's eyes. When forced to come up with a project for science class, she chooses to study molds. But Christy has depthher concern for a talented but troubled young pianist gets the boy over a rough spot. And when it looks like she's out of the play, Christy has matured enough to handle the disappointment. Readers will know Christy is going to come out on top; she makes happy endings wherever she goes. But her story isn't slick or overly sweet; because of the humor in Swallow's writing, Christy is a peachtart and just right. Ages 10-up.
