From School Library Journal

Grade 5-8-- In this sequel to It's No Crush, I'm in Love! (Delacorte, 1982), 15-year-old flirt Susanna makes a bet with her best friend that she can give up guys for three months. So her parents won't be suspicious, she hires Ben Green to pretend to be her boyfriend. Even though she loses her bet at the eleventh hour, Susanna learns from Ben how to handle jealousy and to stop trying to control everything and everyone around her. She matures by the end of the novel, no longer rating boys' buns or enjoying basketball for the short uniforms, yet this growth is superficially motivated and lacks credibility. Her relationship with Ben, a boyfriend who is also a friend, is better drawn. In a subplot, Susanna plugs reading by volunteering at the public library. Unfortunately, the stereotype of the shy, quiet, unassuming librarian is perpetuated here. Mediocre fare for the most voracious readers of teen romances or fans of Foley's previous novels. --Connie Tyrrell Burns, Mahoney Middle School, South Portland, ME
