About the Author

The Scottish novelist, travel writer, poet, and essayist Robert Louis Stevenson was the author of the enduringly popular romantic adventure stories, Treasure Island (1883) and Kidnapped (1886). Stevenson also wrote the alarming psychological allegory Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886). These have become classics of children”s literature. Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on Nov. 13, 1805, and he became known as one of the most gifted writers of the late 19th century. He passed away on Dec. 3, 1894.
