From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 2-- A very focused concept book in which clear and captivating color photographs show the two parts of a pair on one side of each two-page spread, with the words "one" and "two" under them, and on the other side, the two together as "one pair." As the pictures progress, children will realize that the illustrations are showing preparations for going ice skating. However, only at the end will they realize that the child pictured is actually two children--a pair of twins. While text is limited to the words of the title, the book will give young readers much to talk about and describe in these pictures. Colors, clothing, and actions are clearly illustrated in the photographs. Equally good for preschoolers and children with special language needs, this concept book, while not as verbally clever as McMillan's One Sun (Holiday, 1990), will be welcome in most collections. --Louise L. From Publishers Weekly:

Just when it seems that there could not possibly be a newinterpretation of the photo concept book, veteran McMillan ( CountingWildflowers ; Mary Had a Little Lamb ) offers a winner. Preparationsfor an ice-skating outing are the focus of this involving book, whichexplores "the basic math concept of number sets." "One," "Two," "APair!" are presented whimsically in vivid, colorful photographs, through a cheery succession of spreads that show, for example, oneleft hand, one right hand, then--on the facing page--a pair of handswashing. Eager page-turners will see bright red socks, yellow mittens, white ice skates with blue laces and more. The final pages contain asurprise: the engaging child model is actually two--a pair of twinswho enjoy matching cups of hot cocoa topped with whipped cream. Liketheir snack, this book is satisfying and delicious. Ages 3-6.
