Reviews
Ages 5-7. Collages made of torn and cut tissue paper and accented in gold pencil and paint provide a new perspective on a well-known Christmas carol. Blocky human and animal figures set against angular images representing such things as mountains and trees appear on every double-page spread, along with short phrases from the carol. The deep purples, greens, and blues of the mountains and evening scenes contrast with the occasional yellows and oranges of the desert and daylight hours. The touches of gold add a delicacy that works well with the panoramas. Endpapers include the music and lyrics to the carol against a light-blue tissue-paper sky. A fine addition for libraries looking for illustrated Christmas carols. Deborah Abbott
