PreSchool-Cheerful beagle puppies star in this counting book told in rhyme. The bright watercolor and pencil illustrations capture the droll antics of the young canines as more and more of them romp across double-page spreads. Ten pooches predictably but satisfyingly "drop in a heap" at the end of the day. An appealing but additional choice for concept-book shelves.

Ages 2^-5. Ten roly-poly puppies have a day full of fun playing tug-of-war, doing tricks, marching in a line, disturbing a beehive, and engaging in an assortment of typical puppy antics. Tired, they return to their loving mother. The lively, upbeat illustrations of the cuddly dogs frolicking in the outdoors sufficiently extend the simple narrative, which is written in a successful rhyming scheme. Numbers from 1 to 10, appropriately placed throughout the text, are printed in bold, black print, making this book a fine choice to share with young children who are just learning to count or those just yearning to hear an amusing story.
