About the Author

Joan Clemmons is a fifth-grade teacher at Rolling Valley Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia. She was a finalist for Teacher of the Year in Fairfax County. She is a consultant and workshop leader, giving presentations in school districts nationwide. She is co-author with Lois Laase of Portfolios in the Classroom and Language Arts Mini-Lessons. (both are Professional Books)

Lois Laase has extensive experience as a classroom teacher having taught in several states, as well as in International School in Norway, Italy, and Brazil. Through her position as Community Liaison Officer at the American Embassies in Australia and Brazil she did educational counseling. Lois is an educational writer. She has authored Portfolios in the Classroom and Language Arts Mini-Lessons for Scholastic Teaching Resources. She is a contributing editor for Instructor magazine, and has also published integrated language arts thematic units, and a literature-based math series. She is listed in Who's Who in American Education. Lois shares her expertise on language arts and assessment through staff development workshops, through her classes at Adams State College, and through her presentations at local, state, and national conferences. She and her husband are presently living in Grand Junction, Colorado where they are able to enjoy the great outdoors.
