But when Paddy talks to the wife of the dead man, she finds that the relationship between him and the murdered woman was closer than the police had imagined. Why have these people died? What were they trying to hide? And could this be the break Paddy’s been waiting for? What follows is a deeply personal journey into the dark heart of a brutal economic recession, and the brutal bud of the drugs trade in the 1980s.

About the Author

Denise Mina was born in 1966 in Glasgow. She worked as an auxiliary nurse in a geriatric and terminal care nursing home before studying law at Glasgow University. She has written comedies for BBC Scotland and has published two humorous books. As an academic researcher, Denise Mina has written extensively on the medicalization of deviant women, and until recently she taught Criminology and Criminal Law. She lives in Glasgow where she now writes full time. She won the John Creasey Award for best first crime novel in 1998 for Garnethill. She is the author of Exile, Resolution and Sanctum.
