The possibilities are almost unlimited... oh, and undoing is easy!
PreS-Gr 2—Another relentlessly sweet installment in the "Everyday Together" series follows in the footsteps of its predecessors I Love Mommy Every Day, I Love Daddy Every Day, and Christmas Every Day. Aimed at celebrating the spirit of Valentine's Day daily, this collection of vignettes describes various facets of nonromantic love. Capitalized statements such as "LOVE IS AFFECTIONATE" or "LOVE IS A GIFT" precede explanatory sentences like "Great big cuddles, hugs, and kisses." and "It must be cherished and looked after." Vibrantly colored illustrations showing invariably smiling adults, kids, animals, and even toys, drive these points home through scenes of varying clarity—"LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDARIES" shows a grandmother talking on the phone with her granddaughter, while "LOVE MEANS TRUST. A safe space to be ourselves" more ambiguously features an older woman in a wheelchair, a younger woman, and some children feeding the birds. Every page has a heart-shaped die-cut, in addition to other multiple heart and rainbow illustrations scattered throughout. Its most winsome feature is Mas's devotion to diversity, depicting children and adults of many racial presentations and ethnicities, as well as mixed race and same-sex couples. VERDICT A title finely suited for a sentimental gift or a filler Valentine's Day addition for large collections.—Yelena Voysey, formerly at Pickering Educational Lib., Boston Univ.
