The Brentridges are wealthy and influential New Mexico Territory landowners. There status purportedly purchased by seemingly inexhaustible capital provided by there reputed Deadmen Hills' gold mine. It only human nature that others would like to share in such bounty. That these others have to die has less to do with keeping the "mine" location a secret than with concealing other mysteries bequeathed by the long-lived and elusive native-American shaman Queequeega. Secrets even the Brentridges can likely never fully comprehend.

I started out by writing sci-fi (my TLEN series, back in the seventies). Since then, I've written about ten other sci-fi/fantasy books, under one pseudo or another. Mostly, though, I've been involved with market-place demands that have seen me writing everything from Harlequin SuperRomances (LOVE'S EMERALD FLAME, FROM THIS BELOVED HOUR, LOVE'S GOLDEN SPELL) to Children's Books (DOG ON A SURFBOARD AND THE REST OF THE ADVENTURE).

Maybe even a river, hidden underground, like the water of the rumored Payne Reservoir. By the first time he'd reached this exact location, he'd changed his opinion to imagine a large vein of gold. But Brentridge gold didn't start out as nuggets, or as shimmering glitter implanted amid black lava stone, the latter bound to have confused and amazed geologists who'd always predicted against it.
Brentridge gold was something far more eye popping. Something that drooped mouths in awe, even as David's mouth had dropped, that first time, and every time since. Just as David's jaw went slack this time as he turned the mist enshrouded corner...
