Grade 3 Up-An ideal selection that gives step-by-step instructions for 14 lanyard bracelets and ideas for smaller projects using this readily available material. Simply worded directions are included for each bracelet; patterns are well developed and illustrated; and crisp, full-color photos of the finished products are provided. Done in the same style as Gryski's Friendship Bracelets (1993) and Cat's Cradle, Owl's Eyes (1984; o.p., both Morrow), this title is a gem for crafters and can be used successfully with minimal adult assistance.

Gr. 3-6. For those adults who don't remember, lanyards are woven strips of brightly colored plastic (or other materials) that can become bracelets, keychains, and earrings. This attractive book provides a number of designs and easy-to-follow instructions that are clearly illustrated. Beginning with the simplest bracelet, Gryski takes kids through the more difficult designs. Most of the instructions are for bracelets, but at the end she shows kids how to improvise other uses. An interesting alternative to the usual crafts books for kids. Ilene Cooper
