About the Author

R.D. Chin is a full-time Feng Shui Architect who is currently licensed as a New York State architect, NCIDQ interior designer, author and teacher. Mr. Chin trained and worked with the late master architect Paul Rudolph and further expanded his knowledge of the interior design field working with interior designer, Nina Hughes. He combines Western design principles with Feng Shui to align any space with dimensions of spirit, character, and a feeling of balance. In addition, Mr. Chin integrates his innate knowledge of his Chinese heritage with the wealth of insight gained from his travels to the Far East (China, Taiwan, Nepal, Tibet, India and Japan) as well as Europe and the United States.

Born in 1953, R. D. Chin has a civil engineering degree (BSCE) from Tufts University and a masters degree in architecture (M.Arch) from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been trained under the tutelage of late Grandmaster Professor Lin Yun of the Tantric Buddhist School of Feng Shui. In 1993, Mr. Chin initially founded Space Alignment; it is now called R.D. Chin, Feng Shui Architect, an architectural design consultant practice in New York City. He has also worked on proposals for an urban planning and housing development in the Netherlands and contributed a Feng Shui Proposal for the World Trade Center Memorial Competition with Colpacci Miclescu Architects, Amsterdam.

In Part I, Chin explains the concept of ch'i and the use of the ba-gua, an eight-sided tool that indicates where to find the areas in each room corresponding to the eight elemental areas of our lives: wealth, career, relationships, fame, children, travel, knowledge and family.

In Part II, Chin guides us on a tour of thirteen houses, room by room, introducing us to the particular problems of the people living there. He points out troublesome architectural layouts, discusses furniture arrangement, and tells us how feng shui cures will affect the personal and professional lives of the occupants. Full-color photographs show just what was done (or in some cases what should not be done) for the most beneficial results. An analysis of a large garden is also included. Because Chin has a talent for addressing the underlying emotional core of each situation, his stories have a direct and personal resonance.

In Part III, Chin gives us Feng Shui Cures, a toolbox for handling problems such as overhead beams, slanted ceiling, long corridors, sharp corners and "bad" placement of rooms, windows and doors.
