Most Americans think of New Zealand as being down there somewhere, a country producing quality produce and exceptional wines. While it s New Zealand's neighbor, Australia, that has grabbed most of the attention with Throw Another Shrimp on the Barbie, the culinary culture of New Zealand has evolved the art of the barbecue to a higher level. It's not just hamburgers, steaks and chicken skewers anymore. Now it's breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner that can be enlivened by the warmth and aroma that only a grill can bring. Now, award-winning New Zealand cookbook author, Julie Biuso, has arrived stateside to show us just how to do it.

Julie Biuso has had a long and successful career in food journalism. Her writing on food, her editorship of national magazines, and her many appearances on radio and television have helped make her a household name in her home country, New Zealand. Her cookbooks have garnered an impressive list of credits including two Gourmand World Cookbook awards, a Versailles World Cookbook award, and an ICR (international Cookbook Revue) Perigueux award. Her memoirs, Dancing On My Table (2001), won the Gourmand Best Food Literature in the World award. Julie has also been awarded a Gold Ladle in the World Food Media Awards, has won many awards for her magazine writing, and was elected a founding jury member of the Slow Food Movement, a role in which she continues to serve today. Julie's passion for good food shines through her work and her mission is to keep people cooking because she believes food is the glue that holds families together. In this, her thirteenth book, Julie celebrates the pleasures of relaxed eating and lifts barbecue food to new culinary heights. Aaron McLean worked for a decade in restaurants before taking up a camera. Today he specializes in food, people and locations. He has photographed seven cookbooks, and his images are regularly seen in the pages of lifestyle magazines. Barbara Gibbs Ostmann, author of The Recipe Writer's Handbook and many other best-selling cooking titles, has Americanized Sizzle for ease of use. However, Julie's unique voice has been carefully retained and comes across as giving a novel and innovative way of approaching the grill.
Sizzle offers up sensational food and to prove it, Sizzle was named Best BBQ Book in the 12 year History of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in 2008. With over 100 mouth-watering recipes, you'll never run out of ideas for dining alfresco. The only issue that may limit things is the British weather! Fingers crossed it shines however, these recipes can also be adapted for cooking indoors. Choose from vegetarian as well as meat dishes, with salads, dips and desserts included. --The Weekly News UK; Sizzle, subtitled Sensational Barbecue Food from New Zealand, has been simmering for some time. Julie said that she's wanted to write a barbecue book for several years, and now the timing is right because we are now cooking the whole meal on the barbecue, not just the meat. In Sizzle she has wisely made allowances for the vagaries of our weather, as there are a lot of instructions for cooking Sizzle's recipes in the kitchen in case the weather is inclement. Asked whether the appealing photographs were manipulated to make the food look better, she said they were not, as she liked them to be caught naturally by the camera. She doesn't like to tweak the photos to keep them real so people reading the book can achieve the same result. --The Star Dunedin, New Zealand; There's something about barbecues. As the sun slides and evening sneaks in, the suburban nose picks up the tang of fire in the air-fragrant marinated meats, smoky char-grilled vegetables with a hint of olive oil and rosemary. She who first bade us to take a vine-ripened tomato with such stellar results, is now directing we start with spanking fresh fish, or a clutch of coral-pink prawns, add a squeeze of lemon, chilli and a swirl of coconut cream to find paradise on a plate. A handsome, handy collection to be kept close at hand when next you sniff the air and feel inspired to fire up the barbie. --North & South Magazine, New Zealand
