Review:
Genius, I grew up around a few of those. My dad and uncle were musicians who played with the likes of Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong and Ray Charles, so I know what genius is and I don t throw that word around easily. Not long ago I met another one, another genius that is. Her name is Denise L. Cook. She s not only a world class poet she s a world class talent at a bunch of different levels. Our first meeting was at a club called Stevies in Encino. She was singing and kickin ass in front of an eighteen piece big band. I couldn t believe what I was seeing. I was introduced to her and our relationship began. I told her that I HAD to produce her and she agreed. We took some of her poems, converted them into songs and recorded them. The product that we came up with is probably the best CD (Album) that I have ever been involved with, and I have been given critical acclaim on more that one occasion. The main reason is the genius talent of this brilliant lady, The Oracle. Never have I produced a singer with more passion, soul or voice. As one of her collaborators once said, Her voice almost sounds like a tenor saxophone. She can almost do anything with it. Here s a couple of facts that I d like to hit you with. She had already written the songs, sung them and helped produce the music for the C.D. when we were finishing. Marlo Henderson, my co-producer and I couldn t make a correct edit on one of the songs. Denise said softly, Mind if I try . You know what the results were. It was perfect. By the way, she also designed the C.D. package and the Book Cover. Now does that sound like a Genius to you? I hope so. Because I want to prepare you for something wonderful. This book is truly another wonderful effort by Denise. I hope you enjoy it as I have. I really enjoyed the emotional roller coaster ride from sexy to tender to humor and beyond. A great work from a great artist. Thank you Denise. --Keg Johnson, Record Producer
It is rumored that an ardent fan of the great Miles Davis once exclaimed, Hey Miles, you're too far out . Meaning the great trumpeter's style was too avant-garde for most music fans. To which Miles replied, Should I wait for you? As I listened to the ORACLE, the music of Denise L. Cook, the thought came to me, is she too far out, should she wait for us? The answer of course is she can not wait, nor should she. As they say in the church congregation, 'go 'head on' . The music you are about to experience is a fusion of the Rhythm and the Blues, the Gospel and the Jazz, the here and the now, and it s out there. I encourage a listen to all this product has to offer. I advise more especially to Shift The Shit To The Side , one of my favorites. So get yourself ready for whatever ready for you is and listen to the ORACLE as the ORACLE Speaks...just because, just because. Just because it cant wait, just because it s in her and it s got to come out. --Jerry Butler, The Iceman
