"The actor must approach acting like an Olympic Athlete, the more you practice the necessary skills the more you will book. When a high level of discipline and concentration on the work is achieved, you will see incredible results." Amy Lyndon
Amy Lyndon has just released her first book, The 15 Guideline Map To Booking, and I am happy to report that it is excellent. This is a solid, practical, concise guide on how to break down a scene. Why should you read this book? Because Amy is an actress like you and me. She knows what its like and knows what we go through as actors day to day. She's not someone who has stopped acting and became a teacher - you know who I mean. I'm sure you've read acting books that are hundreds of pages long and takes forever just get to the point. This book is all meat and no fluff. It starts from page one and doesn't stop spilling out insightful information. And best of all, it clocks in at a sleek 66 pages. The guidelines are what Amy has been teaching for years. All of them, from Guideline 7: Every Line Is A Separate Thought to Guideline 14: Why Are You In The Script teaches you the details you need to properly break down a scene and be remembered by casting directors. I obviously won't go through all the guidelines but I will tell you my favorite, Guideline #3: What Is The Character's Emotional State Of Mind (at the top of the scene). She says, If your opening emotion is strong, nothing else will bother you. 90% of your work is done before you walk in the door. So true! If you're stumbling out of the gate all you do the rest of the scene is to try and find your footing. If you absolutely know what your beginning emotion is nothing can stop you. Amy even says it herself, “If you don't know what you're doing, then you will appear insecure in the room. Knowing what you are doing will give you the confidence you need to go after the job.” “Yes,”Amy writes, “These guidelines are not an easy thing to learn but once you do, breaking down a scene will never be easier. Every script you pick up is like a puzzle,” she says. “The clues to your character are in each and every line.” She likes to say, “Be in your heart, not in your head.” This book will definitely lead you there. "I got your book and I cannot tell you how MUCH IT HAS HELPED! My career has been taking off! Since May alone, I have booked 2 episodic shows, (Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva) as well as 2 SAG regional Commercials. My callbacks have tripled in one year!! I cannot say enough good things about how you helped me simplify things & get out of my head. Practice has become repetition and IT WORKS! Thank you so much." Gregory Paul
“I have had a chance to review your book The 15 Guideline Map To Booking Handbook and think it is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!! I got so much from reading it and think it is an awesome tool for all serious actors who are interested in mastering the audition so that they can move into the careers that they desire. I will be using this resource in my own auditions and plan to purchase a couple of copies for friends.” A'da Woolfolk
“Arriving from Tennessee for pilot season my 17 year old and I had ordered every acting book we could find. Among all the thick text like books was a thin small handbook called, THE LYNDON TECHNIQUE. It was so thin we were sure we had been ripped off. After reading all the other books we proceeded onto the handbook and found a diamond in the rough. Of all the books this is a gem with its down to earth step-by-step guide for booking the job. Thank you Amy for sharing your knowledge in such a practical, understandable way. If only we had read this first!!” Lora Plattner (The Neighbors) Mom Shari Plattner
“A friend of mine tipped me off about you classes but unfortunately money has been a little tight so I decided in the mean time to get your book and start practicing at home. The first chance I got to use it in an actual audition setting I did, and I booked the job. I'm thrilled, it's my first co-starring role and it's on an amazing show ‘Parks and Recreation.’ Thank you for writing such a wonderful road map for other actors to utilize and I can't wait to take classes from you and hone your technique!” Thank you. “Pardon my language but holy sh*t your book is amazing!!! I already listened to all your audio stuff... I am in agreement with all! This is all a great combo of my previous training in NYC and in LA. My fav rules are #3, 10, and 12. I feel very lucky to have stumbled upon all this.” Anthony
