Synopsis

When Kathryn moved from Napa Valley to San Francisco in 1991 for cold-water training in the frigid waters of the Bay, she changed her name to Kate. Out came this fun-loving personality that had been suppressed deep inside her. As she approached her goal of swimming the English Channel, she realized the transformation of her inner psyche and learned to cherish her own buoyancy. Kate's book is a frank and inspiring chronicle of personal experience and personal growth, offering comfort, encouragement and perspective to fellow travelers on their own journey toward acceptance, fulfillment, and joy. Follow Kate from the vineyards of California, to the coast of France, and back again to her hometown, where the dutiful Kathryn reemerges.
