In July of 2010 I helped a friend find unclaimed property listings that professional finders wanted a 30 percent fee to help her get I knew I wanted to write a book to share my search tips and help others find their money without paying a ransom.
As I was compiling the search tips that I developed over several years, I kept coming across listings for places other than the state unclaimed property sites. I wanted to include them, but it didn't fit with the format of my book. When I came across unclaimed child support, that changed everything. I knew I was going to have to rethink what I was doing and include the additional sites.
The friend who inspired me to write the book called me from the post office several weeks after she filed her claims. She had her checks in hand and was crying.
"I fell and bnroke my arm. I've been out of work and I don't have insurance. I didn't know how I was going to pay my rent," By now, she was sobbing.
Her checks totaled more than $2,500.
I don't have a total on how much I've helped people find on their own. SOme of the listings would have never been found without the tips from my book. One woman I recently found $1,147 was 8 1/2 months pregnant and thrilled with the discovery. He name was under the first line of the address. If she searched for her name, it wouldn't have shown.
