However, soon after ragaining courage, he had his hand on his sword when she addressed him in a frosty tone: "Stop for one moment. I want to tell you something. Afterwards, I'll address two of your comrades. You'll make a definitive decision then."
"Make it quick, because you haven't more than a few seconds left to live!" he shouted, clutching his sword. His anger, briefly interrupted by his extreme surprise, was regaining new strength with every heartbeat.
She considered him for a moment with an air of scorn then finally said to him: "Have you ever heard the name Antonia de Rocsini, Queen of the Pirates, being mentioned?"
"Amusing question!"
"So you know her! What do you think of that women?"
"What any brave man ought to think of her! I admire her value, her actions. I would bend my knee respectfully before her image."
"Would you serve under those orders?"
"You offend me again by that indiscreet question. That I would do it! I would also sacrifice my blood, life and freedom for her!
"FIne, then. She accepts the homage. Promise it at her feet. You're looking at her."
She majestically drew nearer while gazing at him. Immobile with surprise, he contemplated her without finding the strength to answer a single word. All the other brigands also drew back two steps.
