About the Author
Bob Barker, born into a poor family during the great depression, is a model of America s can do spirit, working his way from tool carrier and paperboy to nuclear safety manager and salesman extraordinaire, from newspaper editor and politician to entrepreneur and head of a multi-million dollar company.
In this book Bob reveals how he employed hard work, determination, and an indomitable spirit to lift himself from poverty by the proverbial bootstraps, and to build the world s largest detention supply business from the ground up.
Tony W. Cartledge is Professor of Old Testament at Campbell University Divinity School and Contributing Editor for Baptists Today. He has published hundreds of articles and is the author of books ranging from Bible commentaries to reflective devotionals and creative sermons, and currently authors an adult Bible study curriculum for Nurturing Faith. From 1988-1998, Tony happily served as the Barkers pastor at Woodhaven Baptist Church.

Some illustrations in color. 1980s In the early 80s, Bob bought a friend s small jail supply business and started supplying restaurant supplies along with personal care, bedding, clothing and security equipment to jails in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The company soon expanded sales into the Southeast and started a cut-and-sew operation to manufacture uniforms and mattresses. In 1985 the company created and mailed its first full-line catalog throughout the country. In 1986, Bob Barker Company moved headquarters to downtown Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and soon after purchased a building to manufacture metal products. By the end of the 80s the company had grown to 33 employees. By the late 90s, the company had grown to over 200 employees. Very good in very good dust jacket. Signed by author. Inscribed on fep.
