Synopsis
This rich, diverse collection features more than 50 authentic and accessible literary selections by classical and contemporary Spanish and Latin American writers. Appropriate for use at the intermediate level in combination with other Spanish texts or as the main text in a literature, conversation/composition, or culture course, Aventuras literarias is designed to accompany the intermediate core text, ¡Continuemos! 7/e.
Designed to promote critical thinking about literature, this reader develops students' ability to read and understand authentic works, to express their ideas orally and in writing, and to employ literary terms and concepts in analyzing content and style.
- A diverse representation of writers features women writers from Latin America and Spain (Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Olga Ramírez de Arellano, Ana María Matute, and Silvia Molina), contemporary Latin American writers (such as Borges, Cortázar, and García Márquez), and new selections by Dominican Blas R. Jiménez and Mexican American José Antonio Burciaga.
- To facilitate course management, each literary selection is accompanied by in-context examples of structures introduced in the corresponding lesson of ¡Continuemos!
- Expanded pre-reading support now includes the presentation of vocabulary followed by a preparatory activity for practice.
- A conversation activity following each reading selection encourages students to discuss themes and issues in the context of their own lives.

About the Author
Ana C. Jarvis, a native of Paraguay, was born in Asuncion and attended school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received her Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in 1973. Presently an instructor of Spanish at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Chandler, Arizona, Dr. Jarvis previously taught at Mesa Community College, the University of California, Riverside, San Bernardino Valley College, Brigham Young University, and Riverside City College. In addition to authoring numerous Spanish textbooks, she has published several short stories in Spanish. In 1988, she was chosen "Faculty Member of the Year" at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
