Synopsis
Jo Ractliffe works with photo-based media, video and installation. She was born in Cape Town where she completed her masters degree at the Michaelis School of Fine Art. Recipient of the 1999 Vita Art Prize, Ractliffe lives in Johannesburg and lectures at the University of the Witwatersrand. Atkinson's text is intelligent and highly readable with revealing quotes by the artist scattered throughout. The seductive imagery shows the spectrum of Ractliffe s work in beautiful colour reproductions.

David Krut Publishing is active in the publication and distribution of books and digital material on contemporary South African artists. The projects are creative collaborations with both established and emerging artists, writers and designers.
TAXI is a series of titles on contemporary South African artists, initiated in 2000 by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) and Pro Helvetia-Arts Council of Switzerland and published by David Krut Publishing. Based in Johannesburg, TAXI is the only educationally driven publication committed to contemporary South African art and its artists. Highlighting artists with a significant body of work, TAXI aims to create textually and visually compelling material to provide exposure and increase awareness on contemporary South African artists and their work.
Each TAXI book is complemented with an educational supplement providing additional resource for art teachers and museum educators. In order to drive the educational value of the project, David Krut Publishing operates collaborative project with NGOs working on visual literacy and arts education programs such as the EU funded Imbali Visual Literacy Project.
