With many line and photo illustrations, this is an excellent reference for a subject having few dictionaries. In Britian, physical geography includes more of geomorphology and biology than is found in American usage, so a clear bias comes through. Terms from meteorology, soil science, hydrology, etc. are here, too, in the "over 2000 entries." The definitions are quite adequate and the work seems much superior to W. G. Moore's A Dictionary of Geography (Penguin, 1963 and Barnes & Noble, 1968), the only other such dictionary listed in Books in Print. The index is fairly complete but it does not, for example, take one from groin (U.S.) to groyne. A fine work for larger libraries but remember that familiarity with British usage will definitely help. R.G. Schipf, Univ. of Montana Lib.
