Taschenbuch / Softcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 202 p. Einband minimal bestoßen, sonst sehr guter Zustand. | Binding minimally bumped, otherwise very good condition. - The aim of this book is twofold: first, to put forward an accurate and comprehensive interpretation of Wittgenstein's later views on meaning, understanding and rules, concentrating on the Philosophical Investigations; second, to offer some critical assessment of these views, so interpreted. The interpretation differs fundamentally from that recently proposed by Saul Kripke: Wittgenstein neither develops a sceptical paradox contesting the factuality of the notion of meaning, nor introduces the community in an essential way into the notions of meaning and rule. Instead, he rejects the conception of meaning as an 'inner state' and recommends that we look to the natural use of signs over time. Once questions of interpretation are settled, the book goes on to evaluate Wittgenstein's position. He is found to be importantly right in his basic contentions, but these need to be separated from associated claims which are not acceptable; in particular, he places too much emphasis upon rule-following behaviour. In the last part of the book Kripke's arguments are criticised in their own right, and the factuality of ascriptions of meaning defended. ISBN 9780631156819 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 279.
