This is a helpful handbook for companies interested in the European Community and in the EC Commission, which establishes guidelines for the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people among member countries.

The opening section presents overviews of the organization of the EC Commission, with offices and persons to contact. For each entry, address and telephone, fax, and telex numbers are provided. The commissioners with their areas of responsibilities are listed, along with the directors for different sectors such as agriculture and transport. There are also lists of embassies for the member countries, sources of financial support and grants, related associations (such as the Committee of the Cement Industries in the EC), pertinent European databases, brief economic data for each country, and a glossary of useful terminology.

Some of the directory information found here is also in The European Communities Encyclopedia and Directory [RBB F 1 92] but at a much higher price. EC Direct belongs in the business collections of public libraries and academic business-school libraries that need directory information on this topic.
