Synopsis
"This guide for parents and teachers discusses how innovative approaches used in schools can change the way boys view themselves and others. Assembled are a collection of writings from key practitioners of boys programs both in secondary and primary schools. Assessed are difficulties associated with bullying, school violence, boys’ underachievement, homophobia, sexism, boys’ uninvolvement in school life, relationships, peer culture, masculinity, gender stereotypes, identity, and self-esteem. In addition, the problems schools face with boys’ behavior and attitudes as they relate to reducing the quality of education for both boys and girls are addressed."

Richard Fletcher is the director of the Men and Boys project, part of the Family Action Centre at the University of Newcastle. Rollo Browne consults with schools on boys education, masculinity, and gender relations.
