Reprint ed. Paperback trade, very good condition, black & white text-photos, frontispiece, map, few drawings, minor edgewear. 60 pp. This is the story of an idea generated by the group Friends of the Myora Aboriginal Cemetery which was formed in 1982 to revitalise interest in the Mission Cemetery. They have undertaken research and physical restoration work, located and plotted grave sites, established a register of the people buried in the cemetery and collected stories of Islanders who had an association with the cemetery and mission. Sharing mutual aims to record, preserve and conserve local social history, led to the partnership to undertake this project, which is an expansion of a previous small booklet. The project aims to publish material relating to the Aboriginal Mission Era 1892 - 1942 on Stradbroke Island. Included are personal recollections and information relating to the cemetery. Some huge mango trees and the stones which marked gardens on the mission site, are the only remaining tangible link to this era of Stradbroke Island history. The title adopted for this publication was taken from the writings of historian Tom Welsby, who spent many hours with the people of the mission in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
