PreSchool-K Teaching young children how to display emotions acceptably is not easy, so parents and preschoolers alike will enjoy these simple humorous books that address that issue. I Was So Mad is a gem, capturing perfectly in the softly colored clever line drawings an angry older sibling taking out her frustrations on her younger sister. Mother steps in and calmly explains acceptable ways of showing anger, like making ``ugly, angry faces in the mirror'' or punching a pillow. The older sister's doll is mimicking her owner's emotions, a neat touch resulting in a fun and reassuring book. Less perfect is No One Is Perfect, which is fine until its unsatisfactory ending. The theme of the bookthat it's okay to make mistakesis a good one, and in a series of delightful kitchen mishaps, the father shows his child that you shouldn't feel terrible if you spill flour or break an egg. The ending is ambiguous, however, because Erickson is trying too hard to close this series of books with the words ``I can do it. I did it.'' In this instance, young readers may be left feeling that mistakes are the accomplishment, rather than the subtler message of feeling good about oneself. Janet E. Fricker, formerly at Phillipsburg Free Public Library, N.J.
