From School Library Journal:
Grade 3-6-- Emma's dream is to play on her older brother's baseball team. Sixth-grader Michael has helped his sister with her throwing and fielding, but has no intention of letting her join his games. Coinciding with Emma's attempts to play ball with the boys is local hero Owen Zabriskie's pursuit of his 3000th hit. When Emma comes up with Zabriskie's ball, she is able to use it to obtain some equipment for her brother's team and ensure her own place on the roster. The story is told briskly and smoothly, but there is little room, or time, for character development. Emma is pleasant enough, but readers never see anything of her beyond her interest in baseball. The parents are well-meaning standard-issue folks. Some of the events are a bit unbelievable, but as lightweight sports fiction for transitional readers, this will earn its shelf space. --Elaine Fort Weischedel, Turner Free Library, Randolph, MA
