Harriet Ziefert has been making magic with words for many years. She is the author of over 200 books for young readers. A mother of two and grandmother of five, she lives in South Orange, New Jersey.
Liz Murphy was born and raised in England and attended the Kingston Art College, where she majored in graphic design. She currently lives with her husband and two sons in Montclair, New Jersey. Liz has illustrated four other picture books for Blue Apple.
PreSchool-Grade 2?This version of The Three Little Pigs is strong on tradition, with the usual repetitive actions and sentences, and the first two little pigs get eaten. The structure and familiar story line provide a good vehicle for youngsters beginning to read on their own. Rader's watercolor illustrations contain plenty of context clues and provide humor. Though Ziefert's text is more complex than Margaret Hillert's pre-primer edition (Modern Curriculum, 1963) and not as original?or as funky?as James Marshall's retelling (Dial, 1989), it will get plenty of use in beginning-to-read collections.?Gale W.
