Margaret Mahy lived in New Zealand and was internationally acknowledged as one of the most outstanding children’s writers of her day. She was the author of more than two hundred books for children of all ages, two of which received England's Carnegie Medal and others of which have garnered numerous citations from the American Library Association. She was also the recipient of an Order of New Zealand, the highest honor a citizen can receive. In 2006 she receivd the Hans Christian Andersen award for her contributions to international children's literature.
Monty is allergic to ghosts, and he sneezes when he enters Brinsley Codd School for Sensible Thought. However, he has been sent to the school because he has discovered a ghost in his dad's old car, and his parents want him to come to his senses. Thus begins Monty's search to track down the ghosts of three prior students from long ago in order to restore everyone to sensible thought! This funny story is full of wonderful puns and irony, with characters living up to their names--the nasty teacher is Sogbucket, and the school's principal is Miss Principal. Dotty elderly ladies, squeaky kids and reminiscent old codgers come completely alive under the spell of Mitchley's voice. Even lists and menus are entertaining because of his delightful presentation. Great laughs are in store for kids of all ages. S.G.B. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
