Arnette Lamb (1947-1998) was the New York Times bestselling author of Chieftain, Border Lord, and other historical romance novels. She won multiple awards for her writing, including the Romantic Times Best New Historical Author award.
Review
Threads of Destiny begins with Lady Suisan Harper pretending to be a servant in a home in London in 1760. Disguised as the Scottish maid, Maura, she comes to the home of Myles Cunningham, a wealthy sailor. Suisan and Myles grew up together, her parents having taken Myles in as a young orphan. When Suisan's parents die when both are young, Suisan's Uncle Rabby takes over the raising of Suisan, and Myles heads off to sea. Due to manipulation and lies the two end up estranged from one another. Suisan has only come to England to retrieve the stolen patterns of the outlawed tartans of the Scottish clans, which she assumes that Myles has stolen. Myles is extremely interested in Maura, and coaxes her into returning the affection. Suisan feels that if she protests too much it will raise suspicion, so she plays along until she finds herself maybe a little too interested. She is torn though, because of the wrongs she has been told he has committed against herself and the Scottish people. Annette Lamb has written a very enjoyable book. Myles Cunningham is a very appealing non-forceful alpha hero and Lady Suisan is a heroine with a believable motive (which can sometimes be a hard quality to find). It's nice for the reader to be the knowledgeable party in this book, especially with the turns that Threads of Destiny takes. Definitely pick this book up - but be warned, it's hard to put down! Annette Lamb has written a very memorable book with great characters! Threads of Destiny is driven by two enjoyable characters and an intriguing plot!
