Beginning with "Do you really want a cat?" Kritsick discusses breeds, per sonality, finding and buying a cat, and common misconceptions. Coverage of basic cat care includes medical records, dental care, nutrition, hazards, and tra veling with and showing kitty. Training and behavioral problems are discussed, as are allergic reactions, preparation of a first-aid kit, long-term prospects for a sick cat, elderly cats, and pet loss. The advice is realistic. Guidance for emer gencies is sound and easily understood. Appendixes cover animal behavior consultants, dangerous plants, and chemicals. Although the information is concise and up-to-date, much of it is available in other recent books. Rec ommended for libraries needing a new cat care guide. Carolyn I.
