Reviews

Kane is a clinical nutritionist who presents a strong case for the correlation between nutritional imbalance and a wide variety of childhood illnesses and behavioral disorders. An enthusiastic advocate of "orthomolecular medicine," which recognizes that "each person is biochemically unique and has a wide variance of nutritional requirements," Kane presents examples of hopeless cases successfully treated by pinpointing allergenic foods or environmental factors and alleviating them through a rotation method described in detail. She discusses problems ranging from schizophrenia to hay fever, covers immunologic and biochemical factors, and provides recipes and meal planners. Although more research is needed before the correlation between nutrition and specific illnesses can be accepted as fact, she presents an alternative approach that may offer hope to many families.
