About the Author
W. Bruce Lincoln is Distinguished Research Professor of Russian History at Northern Illinois University and the author of ten books including In War's Dark Shadow, Nicholas I, and The Romanovs.

Lincoln gives center stage to Russia's campaigns in World War I and the revolution that followed. An accomplished scholar, he uniquely molds military, political, and social history together and skillfully utilizes original accounts to highlight the role and response of the soldier, worker, and peasant. In a fast-paced style that should have wide appeal Lincoln details the failure of leadership, the inadequacy of supplies and personnel, and the effect of early defeats and shortages upon the populace. As war led to revolution in 1917, the author discusses the efforts of the provisional government to rally support for the war and Lenin's settlement under the Treat of Brest-Litovsk.
