About the Author

Max Hastings was editor and editor-in-chief of the Daily Telegraph in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1996 he became editor of the Evening Standard. He has won many awards for his journalism, including Journalist of The Year and What the Papers Say Reporter of the Year for his work in the South Atlantic in 1982, and Editor of the Year in 1988. He is the author of 16 books, two of which were named as Yorkshire Post Books of the Year and one of which won the Somerset Maugham Prize.
