The colorful cartoon-style illustrations combined with the page design (text, dialogue balloons, bulletin board displays, and signs) cleverly present facts with the fiction. Anteater's Missing Lunch finds the class at the zoo; children will notice the marching ants, bears eating honey, and the picnic table with ants on the honey jar. The ending of this story is a perfect lead-in to The Planetarium Puzzle , but the books do not need to be read in any specific order. Here, the class has to solve the puzzle of a strange salad, which they realize represents the relative size of the planets. The Mysterious Mermaid helps students focus on the information they will be exposed to on the field trip to the aquarium. A museum of natural history is the setting for The Snoring Stegosaurus , where logical thinking leads the class to the new janitor, who naps and snores at four o'clock every afternoon. These books are naturals to use in conjunction with actual class trips to these popular destinations; in fact, teachers can easily use the previsit activity in each of the books to prepare their students and make a strong "book connection."
