Grade 6-10-- A realistic presentation of the enormity of a current problem, emphasizing the difficulties of finding anwers, but encouraging personal and political alternatives. Each page is lavishly illustrated with high-quality color photographs; inserts enhance the basic text with "Amazing Garbage Facts" and similar material. Although recycling is not presented as the ultimate solution, it is described as the most reasonable and possible way for at least reducing the problem. That the book is based on a NOVA television series program perhaps explains its engaging visual appeal, lively style, and uplifting approach.
