ANNE NEWTON WALTHER has a background in history and psychology. She is the author of Divorce Hangover, Not Damaged Goods and A Time for Treason. She has appeared on many national and local radio and television talk shows, including Oprah Winfrey, Sonya Live, and The Jenny Jones Show. She and her husband have raised five children and live in San Francisco.
While the business and legal problems of a divorce can eventually be resolved, the emotional trauma often endures years after the fact. Walther, a counselor for a career development firm, points out that the divorce rate for second marriages is a whopping 50 percent. This statistic, she believes, results because divorced men and women often struggle with unresolved issues in new relationships. In order to facilitate successful transitions to new relationships, she recommends reconciling these "hangover" feelings. In addition, she includes advice on financial settlements, lawyers, how to deal with the reactions of friends and family during divorce proceedings, and the forming of new families. This title could be used in tandem with Bernard Rothman's Loving and Leaving (Lexington: Heath, 1990). Recommended for most public libraries.
