Two veteran author/gardeners have created a sumptuous catalog of rare or unusual plants that should tempt any gardener seeking challenge or change. Suggestions include species of rare, exotic, or simply long-forgotten perennials, annuals, herbs, shrubs, groundcovers, ornamental grasses, and trees. Descriptive notes for each plant include origin, range, appropriate companion plantings, and brief instructions on culture. Excellent color photographs accompany many of the listings. Some of the featured plants, hardy only through the Sun Belt, will require special arrangements in northern gardens. An appendix lists sources for ordering plant stock. While this book is not an essential purchase for the basic gardening collection, experienced gardeners will find it a rare treat.
