The target readers for this personal finance guide are time-pressed working people with little or no experience at active money management. The author, a financial advisor, takes a conservative, methodical approach to growing one's assets, emphasizing preservation of capital against the ravages of inflation. Sprouse stresses strategic time management and record-keeping as vital to gaining control over one's financial well-being. In her view, wasted time and motion in money management are nearly sinful, and waiting in bank lines is perhaps one step from purgatory. The author advises using one personal identification number (PIN) for all one's transaction cards--which, however, might end up financing a week in Las Vegas for the next purse-snatcher. This book could complement a library's more comprehensive personal finance guides, such as Jane Bryant's Making the Most of Your Money (audio ed., LJ 9/15/92).
